ABOUT THE MAGAZINE
We showcase creative writing that relates to the purpose of the magazine, connecting youth with seniors. The topics that we like to cover most are mortality, aging, ageism (discrimination based on age), history, identity, family, culture and global conflict. The global conflict portion of our magazine is especially important. We have found that including a section on war creates common ground between seniors, regardless of race and origin. We also believe that history can be interpreted in many ways and that personal accounts of war directly challenge pandemic views of history.
Lester's Army Magazine is a youth connecting seniors publishing project run in collaboration with Arts in Action and The Purple Thistle. We bring youth and seniors together through creative writing, story telling, art, photography and finding common social ground where the two generations can pass the time together. We then produce a magazine that reflects our shared ideas and experience. We are committed to making sure that 80% of the content in LAM is developed by youth and seniors. The other 20% is produced by middle-aged people involved in creative writing, photography, editing etc. We rely very heavily on the support of all ages of people for mentorship, funding, networking, story sourcing and for getting loads and loads of advice!
